Most of you will know 17th March as St Patrick’s Day, the foremost Patron Saint of Ireland, which supposedly celebrates Christianity’s arrival in Ireland (and all things Irish too). It generally involves parades, festivals, people dressing up, a lot of green and shamrocks, the singing of raucous songs and of course – booze.

Decanting is a great way to get more flavour and aroma out of your wine as it comes into contact with oxygen as you pour it and with the greater surface area – this opens up a wine.

Never hold your wine glass by the bowl. Always hold it by the stem – or if you’re feeling particularly devilishly debonair, by the base.
